Drawing upon scenarios of climate change 3000 peaks anticipates the decay of high alpine peaks, by decline of its hidden stabiliser – permafrost. It invites ideas for reuse of the rock and soil mass of 3000 Swiss alpine peaks. This task not only explores the physical condition of the alps but also their symbolic layers. [→ § 3 Aim and Purpose]
3000 peaks is organised by Conditia Papaya (www.conditiapapaya.org), a non-for-profit association from Zurich, Switzerland.
The call for ideas aims at producing a large number of ideas, from different fields of practice (further referred to as “categories”), preferably as diverse as possible.
The call for ideas resp. the generated ideas serve the following purposes:
Participating ideas and their public discussion may continue or correct this list.
Participation in the 3000 peaks Call for Ideas is open to everybody, internationally – to individuals as well teams*. Multiple call entries from same participants are possible as long as they are submitted separately as individual entries, and contain different ideas.
The field of participants is initially subdivided in five categories***, each one represents specific sets of perspectives, forms of expertise, methods and practice.
Creative crossing of disciplinary boundaries and challenging the default division of categories is encouraged.**
The five categories are:
Architecture/ Design
Students, freelancers, practices and agencies, individuals or groups, collaborations within one field of practice or across several fields resp. professions etc.
Arts
Students, self-employed artists, individuals or groups, entries or collaborations from all artistic fields: fine arts, performing arts, film and video etc.
Sciences
Students or scientists from all scientific fields of natural sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, cultural sciences etc.; public or private research, from basic research to an application or a practice based perspective etc.
Non-/ Inter-/ Transdisciplinary
Collaborations or individual entries, that are based on a form of expertise but would not or explicitly intend not to fit into one of the above mentioned categories – including the broader public, or participants, who wouldn’t self-identify as an expert of a any kind.
The Youth
The youth have proven a broader and more emphatic view on the overall current situation, than those in charge.
*The organisers provide assistance with the search for potential collaborators. Potential participants are wellcome to send their wishlist to: [email protected].
**Subsequent additions or renamings of categories are possible.
***Hereby the organisers express their awareness, that this call for ideas might appeal to individuals, who feel constricted by expectations and conventions common with their professions or their fields of practice and who therefore would look for the very ways to transgress boundaries and categories.
The call entries and their submission have to meet the following formal requirements:

Moreover, the 30 shortlisted ideas will be taken seriously and awarded with further development: for each finally selected idea/ entry suitable partners will be sought (public institutions, companies, individuals etc.) – aiming not at realization but rather at discursive approximations towards a closer-to-reality form.
After the call's deadline:
Aim: selection of 30 ideas/ entries
Aim: drawing upon climate related topics by situating an abstract global discourse on a local level and leaving popular cliches behind as far as possible, by:
It culminates in a public exhibition of all accepted ideas with an emphasis on the shortlist:
Rather than only documenting the ideas the exhibition focuses on their transformative character as tools for questioning and exploring the shortsighted and deeply underlying presuppositions of the various perspectives within the Swiss discourse on climate change and its consequences.
Phase III will be completed by a publication accompanying the exhibition.
Participants can decide whether their ideas should be published anonymized and remain in that mode throughout the whole project 3000 peaks and after its completion. Authorship rights won’t be touched by this practice.
